About the position

Pacifica Senior Living is seeking a dedicated Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to join our team at our Vista, CA location. The PCA will play a crucial role in providing compassionate care to our residents, ensuring their daily needs are met in accordance with their individual service plans. This position requires a commitment to maintaining the dignity and independence of our residents while delivering high-quality personal care and support. The PCA will be responsible for implementing activities of daily living (ADLs) as outlined in the resident service plan, adhering to the professional scope of practice as defined by state laws and regulations. In this role, the PCA will respond promptly to resident needs, including pendant calls and other community alarms, demonstrating empathy and building a caring rapport with residents. The PCA will promote resident independence and self-care, delivering care and services tailored to each resident's unique requirements. Accurate and complete record-keeping of care delivered is essential, as is effective communication with the nursing staff regarding any changes in resident conditions. The PCA will conduct visual safety checks at the beginning and end of each shift, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for all residents. The PCA will also be responsible for understanding and adhering to safety and infection control policies, promoting a clean and orderly environment, and assisting housekeeping and maintenance staff as needed. Recognizing and addressing individual behavioral and psychosocial needs of residents is a key aspect of this role, as is maintaining and respecting resident rights regardless of their background or health status. The PCA will be expected to complete incident reports accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring that all concerns regarding resident safety and comfort are reported and addressed appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Read and implement care/activities of daily living (ADLs) according to resident service plan within the scope of practice of certification or licensure.
  • Respond to resident needs, pendant calls, and other community alarms in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate empathy and develop caring rapport with residents.
  • Promote resident independence and self-care.
  • Deliver care and services in accordance with individual service plan for all assigned residents.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of care delivered.
  • Conduct visual safety checks on all assigned residents at the start of each shift and communicate resident status with the next shift at the end of each shift.
  • Communicate changes in resident conditions to nursing in a timely and effective manner.
  • Complete incident reports accurately and timely.
  • Understand and demonstrate policies pertaining to safety and infection control.
  • Promote a clean, orderly, and safe environment.
  • Assist housekeeping and maintenance staff to keep community and resident property clean.
  • Recognize, respond to, and report concerns in resident's environment to ensure safety and comfort of resident.
  • Demonstrate behavior that maintains and respects resident rights and promotes independence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • Must possess valid First Aid Certifications and, according to state regulations, may need to possess current CPR and Certified Nursing Assistant Certification.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at the level necessary for performing duties.
