About the position

As a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) at John Knox Village, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for clients by providing compassionate care and support. This position is designed for individuals who have a passion for caring for others and wish to make a positive impact in the lives of those they serve. The services you provide will enable clients to remain in their homes and age in the environment they cherish. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, from assisting with daily living activities to providing companionship and emotional support. The PCA role involves working with clients who may be elderly, handicapped, or dealing with conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease. You may also provide care to individuals receiving hospice services. As a Village Helper, you will be expected to embody the mission and values of the Village, adhering to the service and hospitality expectations outlined in the PRIDE framework. Training and education will be provided and are required annually to ensure you are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform your duties effectively. Your day-to-day activities will include not only personal care tasks but also light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe environment for clients. You will engage clients in meaningful activities, assist them with their personal care needs, and ensure their overall well-being. This role requires a compassionate heart, patience, and the ability to handle stress while maintaining a positive attitude in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the general well-being of clients through companionship, including reading aloud, playing cards or games, and taking clients to activities.
  • Prepares meals and assists clients with correspondence, accompanying them to doctor appointments or other engagements.
  • Achieves order and cleanliness in the client's home by performing light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning bathrooms and kitchens, vacuuming, dusting, taking out trash, and doing laundry.
  • Assists clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), which may include bathing, grooming, oral care, catheter care, and other personal care needs.
  • May assist clients with toileting and dressing as required.
  • Handles stress well and maintains positive relationships with coworkers and clients.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct and adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
