About the position

We are seeking a dedicated Personal Care Assistant to join our team at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. The ideal candidate will provide essential care and support to individuals in need, ensuring their well-being and comfort. This role is crucial in assisting clients with their daily activities and enhancing their quality of life. The Personal Care Assistant will work closely with clients to understand their needs and preferences, providing personalized care that promotes independence and dignity. The position requires a compassionate individual who can build trusting relationships with clients and their families, ensuring a supportive and nurturing environment. In this role, you will assist clients with personal care tasks, such as bathing, grooming, and dressing. You will also provide companionship and emotional support, helping to alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation. Meal preparation and feeding assistance are also part of your responsibilities, along with performing light housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe living environment. Monitoring and reporting changes in the client's health status is essential, as is assisting with mobility and physical therapy exercises. Additionally, you may be required to administer medication under the direction of a healthcare professional, making attention to detail and adherence to protocols critical in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with personal care tasks, such as bathing, grooming, and dressing
  • Provide companionship and emotional support

  • Perform light housekeeping tasks

  • Assist with mobility and physical therapy exercises
  • Administer medication under the direction of a healthcare professional

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures
  • Knowledge of various care settings such as medical-surgical, PICU, hospital medicine, emergency medicine, Level I Trauma Center, clinic, teaching hospital, geriatrics, and outpatient care
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and age groups
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Compassionate and patient demeanor
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is a plus
