About the position

The Personal Care Assistant at Amergis Healthcare Staffing provides essential support services to clients with personal, physical mobility, and therapeutic care needs. This role involves working in various settings, including medical facilities, rehabilitation centers, or in-home residential care, to assist clients in their daily activities and promote their independence.

Responsibilities

  • Provides services to persons who need help with day-to-day activities
  • Demonstrates competence in performing necessary skills based on the patient's plan of care
  • Provides health care tasks, personal hygiene services, and other related support services essential to the client's health and safety
  • Assists with transfers and ambulation
  • Performs incidental household services that are an integral part of a personal care plan (if applicable)
  • Provides companionship by reading, listening, and talking with the client
  • Assists client in the development of independent skills through self-care activities such as toileting, clothing routines, and personal hygiene
  • Implements behavior management techniques in accordance with the directions given by the supervisor/healthcare practitioner
  • Reports changes in patient/client status
  • Adheres to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Requirements

  • State licensure or certification if required by state and/or contract
  • One (1) year relevant patient/client care experience preferred
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • Current CPR if applicable
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
