About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) position is a vital role within the Burke County Schools, specifically designed to support disabled students in their daily activities and educational pursuits. The PCA will work closely with students who require additional assistance to ensure they can fully participate in the Exceptional Children's program. This role is crucial in helping students achieve their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and requirements, providing both physical and emotional support as needed. The PCA will be responsible for assisting students with personal care tasks, which may include lavatory assistance, clothing hygiene, diapering, toileting, and wash-up routines. This hands-on support is essential for fostering independence and confidence in students with disabilities. In addition to personal care, the PCA will accompany students to various locations within the school, including lunch and other activities, facilitating smooth transitions throughout the day. The role requires the ability to lift and move students as necessary, utilizing adaptive equipment to ensure safety and comfort. The PCA will also monitor students during assigned periods in different school environments, contributing to a safe and positive learning atmosphere. All duties will be performed under the guidance and supervision of special education teachers, ensuring that the PCA's efforts align with the educational goals set for each student. This position is full-time, with an hourly rate of $15.60, and the candidate will work up to 37.50 hours per week, specifically on student days. Responsibilities

  • Assist students with personal care tasks, including lavatory assistance, clothing hygiene, diapering, toileting, and wash-up routines.
  • Accompany students to assigned locations within the building, including lunch and other activities.
  • Facilitate transitions for students throughout the school day.
  • Assist students to and from the bus as needed.
  • Lift, move, and cooperate with adaptive equipment to support students.
  • Monitor students during assigned periods in various school environments to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 48 hours of creditable college credit or a two-year degree.
  • Ability to work closely with disabled students and provide necessary support.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students and staff.
  • Physical capability to assist with personal care tasks and lift students as needed.
