About the position

Durham Ridge Assisted Living is seeking dedicated Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) to join our team. This role is essential in providing compassionate care to our residents, ensuring their comfort and well-being. As a PCA, you will be responsible for assisting residents with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility. You will play a vital role in promoting independence among residents while ensuring their safety and dignity are maintained at all times. Training will be provided for applicants who are not certified as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), and all necessary training will be conducted in-house. Applicants must be prepared to pass a drug test, background check, and Healthcare Personnel Registry check before employment begins. The position requires a commitment to providing high-quality care and support to residents, fostering a positive and respectful environment. You will be expected to assist residents in various personal care needs, respond to their requests, and maintain a clean and safe living environment. This role is not only about physical assistance but also about building relationships with residents and their families, ensuring they feel valued and respected. You will work closely with other staff members to coordinate care and participate in activities that enhance the residents' quality of life. This is a full-time position with shifts available on all days, including weekends as needed, and the pay ranges from $10 to $14 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Allow all residents freedom to move about the facility.
  • Provide assistance with bathing, dressing, eating, etc., as necessary.
  • Provide assistance with personal care needs in grooming, such as care with hair, teeth, etc., as necessary.
  • Assure that residents are dressed appropriately in living areas of the home or when outside the building.
  • Assist and teach the residents skills in self-help, as appropriate.
  • Assist residents into and out of bed, wheelchair, etc., as needed.
  • Assist residents to and from the dining room, bathroom, activity room, outside the building, etc., as needed.
  • Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure when appropriate.
  • Provide personal attention, such as bedside water or ice, or other personal attention as requested or required.
  • Respond to call bells or other signaling devices.
  • Assist the activities coordinator as needed in planned activities.
  • Assist the residents with transportation as requested by the administrator.
  • Provide assistance to residents to keep clothes and personal belongings in order.
  • Assist residents with bed-making as needed.
  • Provide residents with a clean towel and washcloth as assist as needed.
  • Provide assistance to residents using bedpans, urinals and bedside commodes as needed.
  • Assist/clean residents' personal care items such as bedpans, urinals, bedside commodes, shower chairs, etc., as needed.
  • Assist in admission and orientation of new residents.
  • Notify the SIC or administrator of any change in a resident's condition or when there is a need for medical attention, or any other change in a resident's status.
  • Report any accident or incident to the SIC or administrator as soon as possible after the incident.
  • Help maintain the self-respect, personal dignity and physical safety of each other.
  • Work cooperatively with all staff and relate favorable to residents and their families.
  • Assure that all resident(s) receive care as identified in the Domiciliary Home Residents' Bill of Rights and assist residents in exercising these rights.
  • Assure confidentiality regarding each resident's chart.
  • Assure proper record keeping, as needed.
  • Assure proper procedures are followed for use restraints ordered by the attending physician.
  • Follow all policies of the home, to include, but not limited to, fire safety and emergency procedures.
  • Read and adhere to all of the home's policies and rules.
  • Assure careful treatment and use of all equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in job-related continuing education and in services, as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid CNA license (preferred)
  • Valid BLS Certification (preferred)
  • Experience in patient care (preferred)
