About the position

Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) at BoldAge PACE play a crucial role in delivering personal care services to participants in the day health center. Under the supervision of the PCA Supervisor, the PCA is responsible for assisting with various personal care tasks that are essential for the well-being of older adults. This includes providing assistance with daily living activities such as grooming, dressing, bathing, toileting, feeding, and ambulation. The PCA is expected to follow individual treatment plans and ensure that the care provided aligns with the specific needs of each participant. In addition to personal care, the PCA is tasked with monitoring the health and safety of participants, reporting any observed changes in their conditions to the Operations Director or other clinical staff. Effective communication is vital, as the PCA must proactively address any health concerns and interact with participants and their families in a friendly and professional manner. The role also involves participating in social and recreational activities, which are important for the mental and emotional well-being of the participants. The PCA may also assist with food service delivery during mealtimes and accompany participants to outside clinical appointments when necessary. This position requires a compassionate approach and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for older adults, ensuring they can live independently and with dignity in their own homes.

Responsibilities

  • Provides personal care and escort assistance in accordance with individual treatment plans, including peri-care, grooming, dressing, showering, bathing, toileting, feeding, and ambulation.
  • Reports observed changes in participants' conditions to Operations Director and/or other center-based clinical staff.
  • Proactively communicates participant health and safety concerns to Operations Director and/or other program staff.
  • Demonstrates safe practices utilizing proper body mechanics and complying with universal precautions.
  • Interacts in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner with participants and their families/caregivers.
  • Participates in social and recreation activities with participants as appropriate.
  • Implements interventions, as appropriate to training, as directed by rehabilitation staff, including use of mechanical assistance for participant transfers and mobility.
  • Occasionally accompanies participants to outside clinical appointments, when necessary.
  • Assists with food service delivery and monitoring during mealtimes.
  • Performs other projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • HHA or CNA license strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months of clinical experience as a Personal Care Assistant/Aide, Certified Nursing Assistant, or EMT preferred.
  • Must complete and pass the PACE approved curriculum for Personal Care Assistant upon hire.
  • Meet a standardized set of competencies for the specific position description established by PACE and approved by regulatory agencies before working independently.
  • 1 year of experience working with a frail or elderly population preferred; if not present, training will be provided upon hiring.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and the minimum state required liability auto insurance.
  • Be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up-to-date before engaging in direct participant contact.
  • Pass a comprehensive criminal background check that may include federal and state Medicare/Medicaid exclusion lists, criminal history, education verification, license verification, reference check, and drug screen.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with the geriatric population with physical disabilities and limitations.
  • Knowledge of safe and sanitary personal care techniques for elderly individuals with physical limitations.
