About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides essential nursing-related services to residents, ensuring their comfort and well-being in a homelike environment. The PCA promotes resident rights and assists individuals in maintaining their independence and control over their daily activities. This role involves direct care, support in activities of daily living (ADLs), and effective communication with nursing staff to ensure the best care for residents.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to residents to improve or maintain their abilities according to their plan of care.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility, transferring, and feeding.
  • Maintains a clean and homelike environment by eliminating odors and ensuring cleanliness.
  • Observes and reports any unusual occurrences or significant changes in residents' conditions to the Nurse.
  • Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans for assigned residents.
  • Records accurate information about resident care and conditions in their records.
  • Monitors the physical environment for safety hazards and reports issues immediately.
  • Cleans and stores equipment and personal care items after use.
  • Responds promptly to resident signal lights and buzzers, treating each as an emergency.
  • Attends mandatory in-service education and participates in fire and disaster drills.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand job-related information in English.
  • First-aid training within sixty (60) days of hire is required.
  • Training in personal care techniques and communication skills provided by an RN or LPN.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in time management and prioritizing tasks.
  • Ability to recognize changes in residents' conditions and respond appropriately.
