About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) position involves providing essential non-professional nursing care and outreach services in various settings, including clinics, hospitals, institutions, or home environments, under the supervision of nursing or medical staff. The role is crucial in ensuring that patients receive the necessary support for their daily activities and health monitoring. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, obtaining lab specimens, charting patient information, escorting patients, and assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and mobility. Additionally, the PCA will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients, ordering and receiving supplies, and performing basic clerical tasks as needed. In this entry-level position, the PCA will work closely with other healthcare staff, receiving training and guidance to enhance their skills in patient care. The role requires effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to accurately record observations and follow instructions. The PCA will also participate in tracking clients, scheduling appointments, and engaging in case finding for at-risk individuals to ensure they receive comprehensive health services. Responsibilities

  • Perform direct nursing tasks including taking vital signs and assisting with activities of daily living and hygiene needs.
  • Obtain lab specimens and chart observations and activities, reporting pertinent changes in the patient's condition.
  • Escort patients to and from various destinations as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients.
  • Order, receive, and store supplies, performing basic clerical functions as required.
  • Participate in follow-up activities and tracking clients, scheduling appointments, and performing related tasks.
  • Provide case finding and recruitment of at-risk persons for comprehensive health services.

Requirements

  • Long Term Care certification required.
  • Valid CNA license is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the English language to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to record observations and activities accurately.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions and establish effective working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in writing skills is a plus.
  • Bilingual abilities may enhance communication with diverse patient populations.
