About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) role involves providing essential support services to clients with personal, physical mobility, and therapeutic care needs. This position is crucial in helping clients maintain their independence and quality of life, working under the guidance of healthcare professionals in various settings such as medical facilities, rehabilitation centers, or in-home care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides services to persons who need help with day-to-day activities.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing necessary skills based on the patient's plan of care.
  • Provides health care tasks, personal hygiene services, and other related support services essential to the client's health and safety.
  • Assists with transfers and ambulation.
  • Performs incidental household services that are an integral part of a personal care plan (if applicable).
  • Provides companionship by reading, listening, and talking with the client.
  • Assists client in the development of independent skills through self-care activities such as toileting, clothing routines, and personal hygiene.
  • Implements behavior management techniques in accordance with the directions given by the supervisor/healthcare practitioner.
  • Reports changes in patient/client status.
  • Adheres to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary.

Requirements

  • State licensure or certification if required by state and/or contract.
  • One (1) year relevant patient/client care experience preferred.
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification if applicable.
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
