About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) plays a crucial role in providing essential personal care and homemaking services to clients, enabling them to maintain their independence in their own homes. This part-time position is centered around delivering compassionate support tailored to each client's individual needs, as outlined in their established care plan. The PCA is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of clients through various personal care tasks, including assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, and mobility. Additionally, the PCA will engage in homemaking activities, which encompass cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation, thereby creating a comfortable living environment for clients. In this role, the PCA will also provide companionship, fostering a supportive and friendly atmosphere that enhances the client's quality of life. The position requires a proactive approach to assist clients with self-administered medications and to ensure they are using assistive devices safely. Training will be provided both on-site and online, ensuring that all caregivers are well-equipped to meet the diverse needs of their clients. The PCA will be an integral part of a team that values respect, dignity, and ongoing support for its caregivers, ensuring they are never alone in the field and are always matched thoughtfully with clients they can connect with.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance with safety supervision, showering, dressing, grooming, skin care, ambulation, and range of motion exercises.
  • Assist clients with the safe use of equipment and assistive devices, such as walkers.
  • Prepare meals for clients as needed.
  • Perform homemaking activities including vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping floors, doing dishes, changing bed linens, doing laundry, and cleaning bathrooms.
  • Provide companionship to clients to enhance their quality of life.
  • Assist clients with medications that they self-administer.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent certificate.
  • Must meet passing criteria on the DEARS test (Drugs and Ethics test).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English as needed for the job.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have access to an insured automobile or adequate transportation.
