About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) role at Long House, a BLC community, is a part-time or PRN position focused on providing assistive services to Independent Living residents. The PCA is responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly environment for residents, assisting with meal service, providing medication reminders, and ensuring the overall well-being of residents in accordance with their individual care plans. This position emphasizes person-centered care and excellent customer service, aligning with the organization's mission to enhance the quality of life for adults aged 55 and older.

Responsibilities

• Model and demonstrate excellence in customer service with a focus on person-centered care.
• Deliver non-direct care tasks as described in each resident's plan.
• Maintain residents' rooms in a tidy and orderly condition, respecting individual rights and preferences.
• Assist with taking meal orders and serving meals as needed.
• Provide medication reminders and other care reminders as indicated.
• Respond to resident calls using keys, cell phone, and pager.
• Perform walking rounds and safety checks on all residents.
• Complete cleaning and security duties as assigned by shift.
• Assist at the Reception Desk during breaks for the receptionist.
• Provide supervision for showers as indicated.
• Handle laundry for personal linens and towels as indicated.
• Change bed sheets and make beds as required.
• Document all tasks as directed and report unusual occurrences to the Director of Independent Living.
• Assist with the orientation of new employees as directed.

Requirements

• Demonstrated knowledge of customer service principles.
• Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel.
• Ability to utilize appropriate judgment in various situations.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to summarize and synthesize information for effective communication.
• Ability to foster teamwork among staff.
