About the position

Home Instead® Personal Care Assistants provide a variety of non-medical services that allow seniors to remain in their homes as they age. These services are meant to enhance the quality of life for seniors. Home Instead® Personal Care Assistants help clients and their families meet the challenges of aging with dignity, pride, care, and compassion. The role involves providing personal care services, companionship, and specialized services such as advanced Alzheimer's/Dementia care and hospice care. Personal Care Assistants are expected to assist clients with daily living activities, including bathing, grooming, toileting, and incontinence issues. They also prepare meals, provide medication reminders, and perform light housekeeping tasks. Maintaining a positive living environment and documenting daily activities are essential aspects of the job. Communication with supervisors and office staff is crucial to ensure the best care for clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Personal Care services which could include assisting with bathing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Provide Specialized services which could include Advanced Alzheimer's/Dementia Care and Hospice Care.
  • Provide Companionship services which could include companionship and conversation, stabilization and assistance with walking, and preparing meals.
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Document daily activities and report any significant changes in a client's needs or living conditions.
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisor and office staff.
  • Complete all required training through the online learning platform designated by the franchise office.
  • Participate in company-sponsored training and social events including Personal Care Worker meetings.
  • Report hours according to office policy and communicate changes in availability in a timely manner.
  • Document client information in Client and Life Journal.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push or pull 25 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel and reach.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Possess valid auto insurance.
  • Ability to treat and care for clients and their property with dignity and respect.
  • Ability to adapt to various living environments and locations.
  • Ability to communicate with clients in a friendly and congenial manner.
  • Experience in long-term care, home & community care, or related fields.

Nice-to-haves

  • First aid certification preferred.
  • Ability to work with individuals with developmental disabilities or Alzheimer's.
  • Proficiency in assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Familiarity with resident rights and memory care practices preferred.
