The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) role at Virginia Health Services involves providing essential personal care and support to patients in their homes. Responsibilities

  • Gives personal care to patients, including bathing, shampooing, shaving, mouth care, and skin care.
  • Provides companionship to patients.
  • Assists patients with ambulation, transfers, and exercise.
  • Performs household services essential to health care at home.
  • Cares for patients' surroundings to maintain a safe environment.
  • Gives medication reminders for self-administered medications.
  • Reports changes in patients' conditions and needs to the agency.
  • Attends all mandatory in-service programs and staff meetings.
  • Complies with Homecare Agency Compliance Plan, Infection Control Policies, and HIPAA Policies.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of all procedures included in the Home Health Aide job description.
  • Ability to follow instructions from the Nursing Supervisor and other professional staff.
  • Effective communication skills with managers, patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Effective means of transportation for patient visits.
  • Ability to assess safety of home situations for self, patients, and staff members.
  • Ability to cope effectively with patients and families from varying backgrounds.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
