About the position

The Personal Financial Counselor will provide comprehensive financial counseling services to military service members and their families at assigned military installations. This role focuses on educating and assisting clients in managing their finances, developing spending plans, and offering resources and referrals to support their financial well-being. The counselor will also coordinate and conduct workshops and classes on various financial topics relevant to military life.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal financial counseling and management services to service members and their families.
• Assist service members in establishing spending plans for extended absences.
• Develop and distribute informational financial materials to service members and families.
• Coordinate and provide a variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops on military lifecycle topics.
• Respond to requests for age-appropriate financial classes or seminars.
• Utilize virtual counseling and electronic communication methods for counseling sessions.
• Manage duty to warn situations according to DoD protocol.
• Communicate with leadership and participate in supervision to share trends and issues.
• Participate in training and quality improvement committees as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required, or an associate degree with 4 years of experience, or a high school diploma with 6 years of experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and fluent in English; bilingual in English and Spanish if required by the contract.
• Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
• One of the following certifications is required: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
• Over a thousand hours of financial counseling experience.
