Bertoldo Carter Smith and Cullen is currently looking for a paralegal to join our award-winning, nationally renowned personal injury and wrongful death law firm. The position of litigation paralegal is crucial as it involves all aspects of personal injury litigation. This includes communication with attorneys, clients, medical providers, witnesses, and experts; drafting documents such as correspondence, discovery, disclosures, and other pleadings; and experience with court filing systems and state and local rules of practice. The role also involves diving into trial preparation and practice hand-in-hand with the attorney and client. A successful paralegal will support and anticipate the attorney's needs, develop a strong relationship with clients, and represent our firm as a professional to the Las Vegas community. Responsibilities

  • Draft pleadings, discovery, disclosures and supplements, notices, as well as other written correspondence.
  • Collaborate with medical records staff member to ensure all records (priors, current, updated records and billing) have been requested and disclosed.
  • Monitor incoming pleadings, discovery, and other case related documents.
  • Manage medical chronologies through in-house or outsourced parties.
  • Maintain calendar and manage deadlines (including complaint service, discovery response deadlines, etc), and documents, ensuring that attorney(s) are aware of deadlines.
  • Anticipate case and attorney's needs.
  • Review and process invoices with our accounts payable department.
  • Participate with the scheduling depositions, coordinate witness preparation time, prepare binders, secure and confirm court reporters with other staff.
  • Participate with the preparation and organization of exhibits for any and all briefs (motions/opps/replies, arbitrations, mediations, and trial briefs).

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of personal injury, paralegal experience.
  • Trial experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of current state rules of civil procedure, applicable statutes required.
  • Knowledge of federal rules and applicable statutes preferred.
  • Familiar with all filing systems, including, but not limited to, EFile NV, Washoe EFlex and Federal CM/ECF.
  • Oral and written interpersonal and communication skills; this includes the ability to be direct, empathetic and collaborative with a can-do attitude.
  • A self-starter and team player, able to engage, accept direction, collaborate and yet work independently.
