Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Underwriter Intern for the Summer of 2025. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the insurance industry while working alongside experienced professionals. As an Underwriter Intern, you will be immersed in the world of insurance underwriting, where you will learn about various insurance coverages and contracts, as well as the company's philosophy and procedures that guide underwriting decisions. Throughout the internship, you will become familiar with company policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements, which are essential for understanding their meaning and application in real-world scenarios. You will analyze loss experience, financial conditions, and the physical characteristics of risks to make informed underwriting decisions. Additionally, you will acquire a working knowledge of the supporting sections of the underwriting department, which will enhance your understanding of the overall underwriting process. Effective communication is key in this role, as you will be required to interact with independent agents and other employees through both verbal and written means. This internship is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the underwriting process and the skills necessary to succeed in the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

  • Learn various insurance coverages and contracts along with company philosophy and procedures to make underwriting decisions.
  • Become familiar with company policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand their meaning and use.

Requirements

  • Student should be currently enrolled and entering their junior or senior year in college.
  • Ability to organize data, multi-task, and make decisions independently.
  • Above average communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to resolve complex issues.
  • An interest in developing product knowledge through participation in approved educational programs.
