About the position

PRIDE Industries is seeking a dedicated Pest Controller to oversee activities related to the management of weeds, lawn turf, ornamental plant pests, and vegetation control. This position is crucial in ensuring that pest control services are delivered effectively and safely. Under broad supervision, the Pest Controller will plan and provide day-to-day guidance for appropriate corrections and treatments, working in multiple locations as needed. The role requires a strong understanding of pest control methods and the ability to communicate effectively with field personnel and various customers. The Pest Controller will serve as an informational and technical resource, determining types of infestations based on observation and testing. They will coordinate with the Pest Control lead, manager, and grounds crews to establish application schedules, ensuring that all pesticides are used in accordance with their labeling and stored securely. Additionally, the Pest Controller may be required to train and supervise agents working under their direction and maintain a database on all pesticide applications as per state and federal regulations. Physical demands of the job include lifting, pushing, and maneuvering equipment, as well as cleaning areas that harbor pests. The work environment is primarily field-based, involving travel to various worksite locations, and may expose employees to toxic substances, requiring the use of respiratory protection. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety and compliance with all relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an informational and technical resource regarding pest control services to field personnel and various customers.
  • Determine types of infestation based on observation and/or testing.
  • Determine appropriate treatment method, process, and materials required.
  • Coordinate with Pest Control lead, Pest Control manager, site manager and/or grounds crews for application schedule.
  • Ensure that all pesticides are used in accordance with their labeling and safely stored in a secure location not accessible to non-authorized personnel and disposed of in a legal manner.
  • Train and supervise agents working under the direction of the Pest Controller as required.
  • Maintain a database on all pesticide application per state and federal regulations as required.
  • Lift, push, and swing nozzles, hoses, and tubes to direct spray over designated areas.
  • Use sprayer agitators or pumps or portable spray equipment.
  • Connect hoses and nozzles selected according to terrain, distribution pattern requirements, types of infestations, and velocities.
  • Clean areas that harbor pests, using rakes, brooms, shovels, and/or mops preparatory to treatment.
  • Clean or service machinery to ensure operating efficiency, using water, gasoline, lubricants, or hand tools.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of relevant local, state and federal regulations regarding agricultural pest control, spill response, and personnel protection equipment including respiratory protection.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements.
  • Ability to accurately record all pesticide applications.
  • Computer literacy including skill to operate word processing, spreadsheet, and web-based applications may be required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to present information and respond to questions from vendors, customers, and others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and to present information and respond to questions from clients, customers and others.
  • Interface with customers to maintain a positive working relationship.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
