The Pet Grooming Assistant/Bather supports the Groomer by bathing, drying, and preparing pets for grooming services. This entry-level role requires a love for animals, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring pets are comfortable, clean, and well-cared for during their grooming experience.
Responsibilities
- Bathe pets following proper procedures, including brushing, de-matting, and drying as required.
- Perform initial preparations, such as nail clipping, ear cleaning, and coat brushing, under the guidance of the groomer.
- Ensure the safe and gentle handling of all pets, catering to individual needs and anxieties.
- Clean grooming areas and equipment to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Use and understand pet shampoos, conditioners, and other products, ensuring appropriate products are used based on coat and skin needs.
- Occasionally communicate with pet owners about bathing or grooming needs and follow any specific instructions.
- Assist groomers with tasks, such as holding or restraining animals during grooming or assisting with finishing touches.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a pet bather, kennel assistant, or animal care worker preferred.
- Knowledge of animal behavior and handling, basic pet grooming techniques, and attention to detail.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and handle pets of various sizes and temperaments.
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable, with a strong passion for animal care and teamwork.
