About the position

At Air Products, we are excited to announce the opening for a Ph.D. Chemical Engineer as part of our PhD Career Development Program (PhD CDP). This program is designed to create immediate business impact and offers a unique opportunity for recent Ph.D. graduates to engage in three distinct one-year assignments across various domains including Research and Development (R&D), Engineering, and Plant Operations. Participants in the program will have the chance to develop a robust professional network within the company, gaining insights and mentorship from top technical leaders, many of whom began their careers as CDP participants themselves. The PhD CDP is not just a job; it is a pathway to innovation and leadership in the industrial gas sector. As a Ph.D. Chemical Engineer, you will be at the forefront of addressing some of the world's most pressing energy and environmental sustainability challenges. You will engage in a variety of projects that leverage your expertise in traditional engineering principles, experimental methodologies, and computational techniques. Your work will encompass areas such as process design, modeling, simulation, and optimization, as well as advanced topics like data sciences, machine learning, and renewable energy applications. We are looking for candidates who have a strong foundation in chemical engineering principles and are eager to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. The program will provide you with hands-on experience in both laboratory and commercial environments, allowing you to contribute to innovative processes and product development. Responsibilities

  • Participate in three unique one-year assignments in R&D, Engineering, and Plant Operations.
  • Engage in process design and analysis using data-driven methodologies.
  • Conduct process modeling, simulation, and optimization.
  • Investigate transport processes and reaction engineering.
  • Explore separation technologies including distillation and adsorption.
  • Apply data sciences, machine learning, and AI in industrial applications.
  • Contribute to renewable energy projects and fluid mechanics studies.
  • Perform experimental investigations at laboratory, pilot plant, and commercial scales.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
  • Completion of Ph.D. studies and defense between May/June 2023 and September 2025.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in industrial applications of cryogenic gases.
  • Familiarity with heat transfer principles.
  • Knowledge of advanced computational techniques in chemical engineering.
