About the position

The pharmacist at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital is responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-oriented pharmacy services during their shift. This role involves supervising supportive staff, coordinating medication dispensing, and ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceuticals. The pharmacist also plays a key role in training pharmacy interns and externs, while collaborating with healthcare professionals to resolve medication-related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the dispensing of unit dose, intravenous admixtures, investigational and research drugs and other pharmaceuticals to meet the needs of patient care
  • Identifies and monitors the pharmaceutical needs of patients
  • Reviews patient charts and/or interviews the patient, physician, or nurse to obtain information for medication records or profiles
  • Reviews drug-related information to identify potential problems regarding drug therapy and recommends appropriate solutions
  • Verifies medication orders for completeness and legality
  • Verifies and checks prepared medications for appropriate dose, route, frequency and duration of therapy
  • Provides immediate and direct supervision of supportive personnel assigned to his/her shift
  • Participates in the experiential and didactic education and training of pharmacy students, residents, fellows, and support staff
  • Provides drug and poison information for patients, physicians, nurses and other health care professionals
  • Conducts monthly nursing unit reviews in a timely fashion as assigned
  • Assists in the performance evaluation of area supportive personnel
  • Continuously evaluates and monitors patients' therapeutic responses to prescribed medications as outlined in approved standards of practice
  • Provides pharmacokinetic dosing consultation for patients as needed

Requirements

  • Must hold a degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Must have served an internship and/or residency in hospital pharmacy
  • Demonstrates acumen in verbal and written communication skills
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of the pathophysiology and pharmacotherapy of disease states
  • Has basic abilities for participating in teaching programs including instruction and supervision of pharmacy students and interns
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with others in developing improved services for patients
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan
