About the position

The Pharmacist-in-Charge at Shenandoah Community Health (SCH) plays a crucial role in ensuring the pharmacy's compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Shenandoah Pharmacy, including patient safety, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and customer service. The Pharmacist-in-Charge must maintain accurate records and inventory while ensuring that the pharmacy operates efficiently and effectively. This role is not just about managing the pharmacy; it is about embodying the mission and vision of SCH, which focuses on respect, empathy, genuineness, and specificity in all interactions with patients and staff. In addition to compliance and operational responsibilities, the Pharmacist-in-Charge is expected to develop and maintain relationships with various stakeholders, including accounting, legal, wholesalers, and software vendors. This position requires active engagement with senior leadership to participate in decision-making processes related to new pharmacy initiatives and to communicate any pharmacy-related issues, law changes, or budgetary concerns. The Pharmacist-in-Charge is also responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures regarding the integrity and confidentiality of prescription and patient health information are strictly followed. The role involves direct patient care, where the Pharmacist-in-Charge greets patients in a professional and compassionate manner, answers their questions, and provides counseling on medications and health issues. Operationally, this position supervises pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, ensuring that all legal requirements are met and that the pharmacy runs smoothly. The Pharmacist-in-Charge also plays a key role in staff management, promoting teamwork, providing feedback, and conducting performance evaluations. Continuous professional development is essential, and the Pharmacist-in-Charge must stay updated on pharmacy practices and regulations, including participation in relevant training and conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Manage the operation of Shenandoah Pharmacy, including patient safety and quality assurance.
  • Supervise pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and cashiers in their job duties.
  • Organize and direct technicians' workflow to meet patient and pharmacy needs.
  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures for productivity and efficiency.
  • Serve as the pharmacy point of contact for the Finance department.
  • Communicate regularly with providers and the Board of Directors regarding pharmacy performance.
  • Promote teamwork and motivate team members by leading by example.
  • Provide constructive feedback and conduct performance evaluations for staff.
  • Maintain current knowledge of pharmacy and healthcare practices.

Requirements

  • Licensed in good standing by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of federal and state-specific laws/regulations governing pharmacy practice.
  • Competency with age groups served by SCH.
  • Knowledge of Medication Use Programs and pharmacy computer systems.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous supervisory experience in a retail pharmacy setting.
  • Previous experience with 340B drug program.
  • Dual licensure in Virginia and West Virginia.
  • Previous experience working with pharmacy software.
  • Bilingual (Spanish Preferred)
