About the position

The Pharmacist Program Manager III at Strong Memorial Hospital is a pivotal role that combines clinical expertise with managerial responsibilities within the Community Call Center. This position requires the pharmacist to utilize their clinical judgment and available resources to approve the ordering of medications for patients treated at the medical center. The pharmacist will oversee and directly contribute to the compounding, preparation, and dispensing of medications, ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy practice. Additionally, the role involves supervising pharmacy technicians and managing a functional area within the department. In this managerial capacity, the Level III pharmacist is responsible for scheduling staff in coordination with other managers and the Associate Director to ensure adequate coverage that meets workload demands. The pharmacist will also participate in the interview and hiring processes for staff members, focusing on maintaining or improving employee satisfaction and promoting retention through reward and recognition initiatives. Performance evaluations are a critical aspect of this role, as the pharmacist will conduct annual and ongoing assessments of employees, proactively addressing performance issues and establishing action plans as necessary. Conflict resolution is another key responsibility, requiring the pharmacist to handle disciplinary actions confidentially and document them appropriately. Regular participation in interdepartmental meetings, projects, and policy-making is essential for the successful operation of the functional unit. The pharmacist will delegate tasks to their team, set clear expectations, and follow up to ensure compliance with established plans. Moreover, the pharmacist will track and report workload statistics and other vital operational data to the Associate Director on a scheduled basis, contributing to budget management and performance improvement goals relevant to their area of supervision. The role also includes performing the duties of a Level II Outpatient Pharmacist as needed, ensuring a comprehensive approach to pharmacy management within the hospital setting.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or Pharm D preferred.
  • New York State Pharmacy License required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of acute care pharmacy practice experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive and relevant professional experience.
  • Graduate degree in business management or relevant field preferred.
  • Residency in hospital pharmacy management preferred.
