About the position

The Pharmacy Administrative Specialist at Houston Methodist Hospital is an advanced pharmacist practitioner responsible for coordinating pharmaceutical care, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing patient safety through medication evaluations and drug policy development. This role involves serving on various committees, mentoring pharmacy staff, and leading quality management initiatives within the oncology operations department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate pharmaceutical care to patients through medication use evaluations and drug policy development.
  • Serve on Medical Staff, Hospital, and/or Departmental Committees or Subcommittees.
  • Act as a role model for pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy students, and residents in integrating clinical and dispensing services.
  • Plan and participate in staff development and quality management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals for problem resolution and achievement of patient-specific goals.
  • Develop educational materials and programs for pharmacy staff and hospital personnel.
  • Communicate with pharmacy management regarding personnel issues and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Implement protocols to optimize staff performance and patient safety.
  • Manage daily workload fluctuations and oversee staff activities for accurate medication delivery.
  • Perform functions of a unit-based pharmacist, including order verification and patient counseling.
  • Coordinate department reporting related to specialty focus area and oversee quality assurance processes.
  • Participate in developing the department's annual budget and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy residency or equivalent experience.
  • NRP Certification.
  • 5 years of experience in pharmacy practice.
  • Master's degree or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D).
  • Licensed Pharmacist in Texas or eligible within 90 days.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days.
  • IV Certification (if applicable) within 90 days.
  • Strong writing and communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relational databases.
