About the position

The Pharmacy Data Analyst position is a full-time role under the general direction of the Manager or designee within the ForHealth Consulting department. This role is pivotal in developing data analyses for assigned projects and delivering comprehensive reports that provide critical insights to leadership regarding pharmacy claims, rebates, and opportunities for enhancing analyses, system integration, and related databases. The successful candidate will leverage their subject matter expertise and exceptional analytic skills to produce analytic products that not only meet but exceed client expectations. In this role, the Pharmacy Data Analyst will be responsible for developing analyses and producing reports using a variety of healthcare-related data. This includes mining data and building large datasets from various sources, such as claims and encounter data, to support analyses through efficient SAS/SQL coding. The analyst will create complex qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques utilizing software packages like SAS and SQL, and will also design and implement data management and quality control procedures. This involves writing technical requirements and documenting data sets to ensure data integrity and accuracy. The position requires the analyst to provide interpretation of data to key stakeholders and leadership, identifying and reporting data patterns, abnormalities, and presenting analyses of key metrics and trends. Additionally, the analyst will serve as a subject matter expert for MassHealth data, offering insights into the capabilities and limitations of this data to program teams. The role demands strong organizational skills to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously, ensuring that all tasks are prioritized and completed in a timely manner. Other duties may be assigned as required, making this a dynamic and engaging position within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop analyses and produce reports using a variety of healthcare related data to support program/project development, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Mine data and build large datasets from data sources (e.g., claims and encounter data) to support analyses using efficient SAS/SQL code.
  • Create complex qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques utilizing software packages such as SAS and SQL.
  • Create testing measurements and/or algorithms to test and analyze large amounts of data.
  • Design and implement data management and quality control procedures, including writing technical requirements and documentation of data sets.
  • Provide interpretation of data to key stakeholders and leadership, identifying and reporting data patterns and presenting analyses of key metrics/trends.
  • Responsible for database development, maintaining data integrity and accuracy/quality of reporting.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for MassHealth data, providing insight into the capabilities and limitations of MassHealth data to program teams.
  • Plan, coordinate, and review activities related to data collection to create analyses that meet deadlines.
  • Manage a multitude of complex tasks simultaneously, prioritizing various tasks, analyzing, and evaluating policy and program issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or greater in a computer science, health science, business, public policy, economics, statistics, or related field/equivalent.
  • 5 - 7 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge and use of data mining software tools such as SAS, SQL, Business Objects, Cognos or similar.
  • Advanced SAS/SQL programming skills.
  • Exceptional analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience/skills in appropriate computer, statistical or database applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management/organization skills to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Masters degree
  • At least two years of healthcare data analysis experience
  • Knowledge of the State Medicaid system or other large state bureaucracy.
