About the position

The Pharmacy Developer Software Engineer II at Capital Blue Cross is responsible for leading and managing projects related to the development and maintenance of software solutions in the healthcare insurance sector. This role involves analyzing business problems, designing innovative solutions, programming new systems, and ensuring compliance through thorough testing. The position requires close collaboration with customers to define requirements and propose enhancements to existing systems, all while adhering to PMO guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and research business problems to determine the impact on existing business and IT systems and procedures.
  • Conform with PMO guidelines and procedures when developing IT solutions to defined business problems using structured methodologies.
  • Conduct meetings with customers to ensure requirements are clearly defined and adequately satisfied.
  • Design innovative solutions using emerging and existing technologies for business problems and determine feasibility and practicality of implementation.
  • Prepare test data and conduct program and system tests to ensure compliance.
  • Assist customers in establishing acceptance criteria and effectiveness of proposed solutions.
  • Maintain knowledge of the department's programming languages and tools, coding and design techniques, and emerging technologies through continued education.
  • Analyze functional and technical aspects of existing systems to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain programs or systems and all related elements (e.g., scripts, stored procedures, documentation).
  • Create and maintain all documentation for assigned applications to establish standards for configuration and enhancements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years I/T experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or Healthcare Administration in a health science field.
  • Familiarity with the healthcare insurance industry.
  • Managed care experience and specific knowledge in the workflow for dispensing pharmacy prescriptions.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy industry and experience working with a Pharmacy Benefit Manager.
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical and pharmaceutical terminology and practices.
  • Working experience with Informatica PowerCenter, IDMC, or CDI-PC or equivalent ETL software.
  • Working experience with SQL, Shell Scripts, and Stored procedures.
  • Working knowledge of database management technologies and data modeling practices.
  • Working knowledge of electronic drug data and clinical information from Medi-Span and Redbook.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize workload and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to manage rapidly changing priorities and meet stringent deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with pharmacy benefits management (PBM).
  • Ability to provide off-hours assistance to support customers and I/T initiatives.
