About the position

The Director of Clinical Operations Pharmacy Services at UVA Medical Center plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of safe, cost-effective, and optimal medication therapy. Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy Enterprise, Acute Care and Infusion, this leader is responsible for overseeing pharmacy managers and clinical pharmacy programs, as well as collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care. The director will coordinate all clinical pharmacy services across the acute care areas of the UVA University Hospital, promoting standardization and advancing pharmacy practices. This position also supports the educational mission of UVA by precepting pharmacy residents and students, thereby contributing to the development of future pharmacy professionals. In this role, the Director of Clinical Operations will create a vision and direction for clinical pharmacy programs, facilitating the pursuit of best practices. Essential skills for this position include leadership through influence, clinical pharmacy expertise, and the ability to implement strategies that improve the safety of clinical care. The director will work closely with pharmacy directors, managers, clinical leads, and pharmacists to ensure the delivery of pharmaceutical care and appropriate clinical workflows. Compliance with local, state, federal, and organizational requirements is a key responsibility, as is coordinating accreditation and inspection readiness activities. The director will also collaborate with healthcare professionals at all levels to provide safe and effective care, develop and lead the implementation of best practice guidelines, and participate in the development of policies and procedures related to clinical services. Additionally, the role involves talent development, coaching peers, and holding staff accountable for meeting customer needs. The position requires effective leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, as well as a commitment to innovation and organizational change to improve effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Create the vision and direction for clinical pharmacy programs and facilitate the pursuit of best practices.
  • Demonstrate leadership through influence and clinical pharmacy expertise.

  • Facilitate a culture of safety in partnership with department of pharmacy leaders.
  • Work with pharmacy directors, managers, clinical leads, and pharmacists in the delivery of pharmaceutical care.
  • Facilitate compliance with local, state, federal, and organizational requirements.
  • Coordinate accreditation and inspection readiness activities.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide safe and effective care.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of best practice guidelines and clinical decision support.
  • Participate in the development of policies and procedures related to clinical services and pharmacy accreditation standards.
  • Develop talent and coach peers to enhance their capabilities.
  • Hold staff accountable for meeting customer needs.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy degree required (Masters and/or Pharm.D.) from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • Minimum 3 years progressive experience in pharmacy practice and pharmacy management.
  • Specialized residency training in pharmacy administration will be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Licensed to practice as a Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
