About the position

The Pharmacy Drug Shortage Technician at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) plays a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy department by managing drug shortages, maintaining inventory, and ensuring the availability of pharmaceutical supplies for patient care. This position operates under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and involves a variety of technical and clerical duties related to drug distribution and procurement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide unit dose drug distribution system.
  • Purchase and receive pharmaceutical stock procured through the prime vendor contract.
  • Manage drug shortages by locating, procuring, and arranging pharmaceutical deliveries when not available through regular suppliers.
  • Maintain adequate inventories to support the institution's patient care needs.
  • Conduct recalls of various drugs and maintain records of all pharmaceutical transactions.
  • Resolve drug shortages promptly by prioritizing the workload to support quality patient care.
  • Arrange for emergency purchases and ensure item deliveries.
  • Maintain records for drugs borrowed and loaned from other hospitals in accordance with the Florida Board of Pharmacy (FLBOP) requirements.
  • Reconcile transactions continuously.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., Certificate of High School Equivalency).
  • Successful completion of a Florida Board of Pharmacy (FLBOP) approved pharmacy technician training program.
  • Four (4) years pharmacy experience.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • FLBOP registration in accordance with Florida Statutes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Meets all training requirements applicable to the pharmacy technician job series, up to and including the Pharmacy Technician IV/Cert (JC: 072705) job classification.
