About the position

The Pharmacy Drug Shortage Technician at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare plays a crucial role in managing the hospital's pharmaceutical inventory, particularly in addressing drug shortages. This position involves working under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist to ensure the efficient distribution of medications and supplies, while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The technician will be responsible for purchasing, receiving, and managing pharmaceutical stock, as well as conducting recalls and maintaining accurate records of transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide unit dose drug distribution system.
  • Purchase and receive pharmaceutical stock procured through the prime vendor contract.
  • Manage drug shortages by locating, procuring, and arranging pharmaceutical deliveries when not available through regular suppliers.
  • Maintain adequate inventories to support the institution's patient care needs.
  • Conduct recalls of various drugs and maintain records of all pharmaceutical transactions.
  • Resolve drug shortages promptly by prioritizing the workload to support quality patient care.
  • Arrange for emergency purchases and ensure item deliveries.
  • Maintain records for drugs borrowed and loaned from other hospitals in accordance with the Florida Board of Pharmacy (FLBOP) requirements.
  • Reconcile transactions continuously.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., Certificate of High School Equivalency).
  • Successful completion of a Florida Board of Pharmacy (FLBOP) approved pharmacy technician training program.
  • Four (4) years pharmacy experience.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • FLBOP registration in accordance with Florida Statutes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Meets all training requirements applicable to the pharmacy technician job series, up to and including the Pharmacy Technician IV/Cert (JC: 072705) job classification.
