About the position

The Pharmacy Graduate Intern at Walgreens engages in post-graduate pharmacy activities under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. This role is designed to fulfill State Board of Pharmacy requirements while providing pharmacy consulting services to customers. The intern will be responsible for ensuring proper medication compounding, dispensation, and verification, as well as supporting the pharmacy's operational efficiency and enhancing customer experience through healthcare services.

Responsibilities

  • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Models and shares customer service best practices with team members.
  • Develops strong relationships with customers by anticipating their needs and proactively offering services.
  • Participates in community events as requested by management.
  • Counsels patients regarding medication usage, side effects, and interactions under supervision.
  • Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding and medication management.
  • Ensures pharmacy operations comply with regulations and company policies.
  • Maintains knowledge of pharmacy systems and proposes enhancements for productivity.
  • Processes insurance claims and follows up with providers to resolve issues.
  • Performs immunizations and other preventive healthcare services.
  • Assists pharmacy manager in analyzing performance data and inventory management.
  • Develops relationships with local medical community and participates in outreach activities.
  • Supports customer registration and resolves issues in virtual environments.
  • Assists in staff hiring and training, providing feedback and monitoring performance.
  • Maintains current knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare.
  • Communicates corporate health and wellness information to pharmacy staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited University outside the United States.
  • Foreign Pharmacist Graduate Equivalency Certificate (FPGEC).
  • Intern permit/certificate issued by the respective Board of Pharmacy, if required.
  • Willingness to obtain pharmacist licensure within 45 days of completing intern hours.
  • Experience performing prescription dispensing activities with knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws.
  • Certified Immunizer or willingness to become certified within 90 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community pharmacy settings.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy management systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
