About the position

The Pharmacy Informatics & Technology Manager at MD Anderson Cancer Center is responsible for overseeing pharmacy technology applications, ensuring their optimal performance, and managing the integration of clinical pharmacy informatics within the electronic health record. This role involves leadership in project management, personnel management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance medication safety and operational efficiency in pharmacy services.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee management of pharmacy technology applications users, formulary, and system requirements.
  • Coordinate with application vendors to resolve issues and enhancement requests.
  • Select, maintain, and optimize pharmacy technology applications, including infusion pumps and automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Provide leadership and direction to complete project tasks and meet milestones.
  • Stay updated on advancements in pharmacy technology and promote innovation.
  • Manage routine maintenance and support tasks for pharmacy technology applications.
  • Oversee upgrades and selection of pharmacy technology applications.
  • Manage complex reporting and dashboards for pharmacy technology applications.
  • Maintain the Pharmacy Charge Description Master (CDM) and oversee medication charge capture activities.
  • Monitor pharmacy billing issues and provide oversight on corrective action plans.
  • Manage medication-related content in the electronic health record and pharmacy technology systems.
  • Optimize the organization's medication-use system using process improvement tools.
  • Develop collaborative relationships across the Division of Pharmacy and with external vendors.
  • Investigate and respond to safety events related to pharmacy informatics and technology.
  • Oversee pharmacy charging-related audits and support reimbursement improvement efforts.
  • Define roles and responsibilities of assigned employees and monitor workload metrics.
  • Manage recruitment, training, and performance evaluations for assigned employees.
  • Promote constructive relationships within and outside the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Texas State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license within 90 days of job entry.
  • Post Graduate Year 1 (Pharmacy Practice) and Post Graduate Year 2 residency or equivalent experience as a pharmacist.
  • Five years experience in practice area of specialization, including three years in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Informatics, Pharmacy Administration, or related field.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS).
  • EPIC Certification and Board of Pharmaceutical Specialty Certification (BCPS).
  • Pharmacy Informatics and/or Automation and Technology experience.
  • Five years hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Proficiency with Epic Willow and/or Beacon applications.
