About the position

The Pharmacy Intern position at Walgreens is designed for individuals pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) degree. The intern will provide pharmacy consulting services, assist in medication management, and support the pharmacy manager in optimizing operations and enhancing customer experience. This role involves engaging with customers, performing pharmacist tasks, and participating in community outreach activities, all while adhering to regulatory guidelines and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues in a timely manner and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Develop strong relationships with customers by anticipating their needs and proactively offering services.
  • Counsel patients regarding the usage of medicine, side effects, and interactions.
  • Perform pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, and medication management.
  • Ensure the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations and company policies.
  • Assist the pharmacy manager in establishing efficient workflow procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of pharmacy systems and propose enhancements to promote productivity.
  • Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims and follow up with insurance companies.
  • Perform retail, clinical, and wellness services such as immunizations and diabetes awareness.
  • Assist in analyzing performance data related to pharmacy operations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the local medical community.
  • Support the Pharmacy Manager and Store Manager in communicating corporate health and wellness strategies.

Requirements

  • Willingness to obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) degree from an accredited institution before the start date.
  • Willingness to obtain pharmacist licensure within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience performing prescription dispensing activities with knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws.
  • Certified Immunizer or willingness to become certified within 90 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in customer service or retail pharmacy environment.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations and workflow optimization.
