About the position

The Pharmacy Intern position at OU Physicians Building is designed for individuals currently enrolled in an accredited pharmacy program. Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the intern will assist in the preparation and distribution of medications, ensuring safety and accuracy in all tasks. This role involves both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, providing a comprehensive learning experience in a retail pharmacy setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks involved in the preparation and distribution of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Help maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with pharmacy staff.
• Report safety issues and errors in a timely manner to a supervisor.
• Assist the pharmacist on duty with operational tasks in the pharmacy.
• Review and assess medication/IV orders for drug interactions and appropriateness.
• Provide clinical interventions through communication with healthcare professionals and patients.
• Prepare intravenous admixtures and other sterile products using aseptic techniques.
• Receive and input new discharge patient medication orders into pharmacy management software.
• Complete patient prescriptions from start to finish, including input, filling, and packaging.
• Prepare adherence packaged discharge patient medications under supervision.
• Answer clinical questions regarding medication use as directed by the pharmacist.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Currently enrolled and in good standing with an accredited college of pharmacy approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.
• Active Oklahoma licensed intern permit required.
