About the position

The Pharmacy Intern position at Walgreens is designed for individuals enrolled in a pharmacy program who are eager to gain practical experience in a retail pharmacy setting. The role focuses on assisting pharmacists and pharmacy team members to provide excellent patient care while adhering to state and federal regulations. Interns will learn pharmacy operations, customer service best practices, and develop strong relationships with customers, all while preparing for a future career as a pharmacist.

Responsibilities

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Develop strong relationships with customers.
• Assist in the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist, in accordance with regulations and company policy.
• Perform duties related to entering, processing, filling, and dispensing prescriptions as assigned by the pharmacist.
• Assist pharmacists in delivering patient care and services, including patient counseling and health services.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
• Register all related sales on the cash register and handle cash as required.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention.
• Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the Pharmacy Department.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a school of Pharmacy program.
• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
