About the position

The Pharmacy Intern position at Walgreens is designed for individuals enrolled in a pharmacy program who are eager to gain practical experience in a retail pharmacy environment. The role focuses on assisting pharmacists and pharmacy team members in delivering exceptional patient care while adhering to state and federal regulations. Interns will learn pharmacy operations, customer service best practices, and the importance of compliance with company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Develop strong relationships with customers.
  • Assist in the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist.
  • Perform duties related to entering, processing, filling, and dispensing prescriptions as assigned by the pharmacist.
  • Assist pharmacists in delivering patient care and services within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on the cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist with inventory management activities in the Pharmacy Department.
  • Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, and orderly.
  • Complete required training and maintain knowledge in healthcare and pharmacy.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a school of Pharmacy program.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment is preferred.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens is preferred.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing.
