As a Pharmacy Technician - Non Certified, you will play a crucial role in providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while assisting pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of prescription medications. Your core competencies will include partnerships, a growth mindset, results orientation, customer focus, and professionalism. In this position, you will be accountable to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Store Operations and Perishables, Pharmacy Department Manager, and Staff Pharmacists. You will not have any direct reports, but your role is essential in ensuring customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment. You will be responsible for greeting customers, assisting them in locating products, and providing support in various ways to enhance their shopping experience. This includes answering phone calls, handling inquiries, accepting new prescription orders, and gathering necessary patient information. You will also assist pharmacists in preparing prescription drug products for dispensing, preparing and affixing labels, submitting insurance claims, and maintaining the cleanliness of the pharmacy area. Additionally, you will be required to administer vaccines as allowed by law. Your role will involve adhering to all company policies and guidelines, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and while previous experience as a pharmacy clerk is preferred, you should be working towards a licensed technician certification through a certified national program.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store.
  • Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to the products they're looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, and making note of customer suggestions or requests.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Handles inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise and judgment.
  • Accepts new written prescription orders and telephoned refill requests at the discretion of the supervising pharmacist.
  • Takes orders from or calls doctor's offices for refill prescriptions.
  • Gathers patient information required to prepare prescriptions and enters it into the computer.
  • Assists in maintaining correct patient information and prepares prescription drug products for dispensing.
  • Prepares and affixes labels to prescription containers and prepares prescriptions to be mailed.
  • Prepares and submits insurance claims and files prescriptions after they have been dispensed.
  • Reports any medication errors to appropriate personnel and orders, checks-in, and stocks pharmacy supplies.
  • Maintains cleanliness of pharmacy and dispensing area and performs cash transactions.
  • Assists with third party insurance billing and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  • Adheres to all statutes and regulations pertaining to a pharmacy technician and company policies.
  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time, and administers vaccines as allowed by law.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working towards a licensed technician certification through a certified national program.
  • Previous experience as a pharmacy clerk is preferred.
  • If applicable, vaccination certification as required by law.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to do logical or scientific thinking to solve problems; several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving arithmetic, algebraic and geometric calculations.
  • Ability to compose original correspondence and follow technical manuals.
