About the position

The Advanced Pharmacy Technician position at Covenant Health's Parkwest facility is a PRN (as needed) role that offers variable hours and shifts. Parkwest is recognized as a premier medical facility in West Knoxville, particularly noted for its excellence in cardiac services. The Pharmacy Department operates around the clock, providing comprehensive medication services across various hospital areas, including procedural and patient care settings. The department prides itself on its modern facilities, which include state-of-the-art Omnicell Carousels, medication dispensing cabinets, and anesthesia workstations. Safety is a top priority, with IV Room suites compliant with Chapter 797 and 800 standards, ensuring the highest level of care for both patients and staff. In this role, the Advanced Pharmacy Technician will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performing essential functions related to the dispensing of medications. The position requires proficiency in IV processes, strong problem-solving skills, and active participation in quality improvement initiatives. Leadership capabilities are essential, as the technician will be involved in training lower-level technicians and coordinating improvement activities. Effective written and verbal communication skills are necessary to support the department's objectives and ensure seamless operations within the pharmacy team.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all position accountabilities and performance criteria for level I and level II technicians.
  • Assists the pharmacist in the training of technicians in levels I and II.
  • Initiates and/or coordinates improvement activities as appropriate.
  • Assists in the implementation of new projects including the development of policies and procedures.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Completes required education assignments annually.
  • Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience or two (2) years with State approved certification.
  • Must be licensed by the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy by the end of the first 90 days of hire and maintain an active Technician License thereafter.
