About the position

The Pharmacy Technician position at Aurora Psychiatric Hospital is a full-time role that operates primarily during the first shift, with varying start times between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM, Monday through Friday. This unique position involves working in both inpatient and outpatient settings, providing a diverse range of experiences in the pharmacy field. The role requires the technician to develop competence in various aspects of pharmacy operations, including the dispensing and delivery of medications, as well as the use of information systems and technology for medication management. The technician will be responsible for preparing non-sterile products in accordance with USP, state, and federal guidelines, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory standards. In addition to medication dispensing, the technician will manage medication orders and requests through the computer system, handle phone communications with customers and healthcare team members, and ensure that all pharmacy procedures and documentation meet the necessary legal and departmental requirements. The position also involves adhering to controlled substance procedures and other accreditation standards, making attention to detail and strong communication skills essential for success in this role. The technician will be expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the overall quality of patient care at the hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Develop competence in dispensing and delivery of medications.
  • Prepare non-sterile products following USP, state, and federal recommendations.
  • Enter medication orders in the computer system and process medication requests.
  • Manage phone calls from customers and team members, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
  • Comply with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards in pharmacy practice.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Student in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Certification (CPhT) issued by PTCB or ExCPT within two years of hire.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Good mathematics skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a pharmacy technician preferred.
  • Certifications in Immunization and non-vaccine injectable may be beneficial.
