About the position

The pharmacy team at Samaritan Health Services is seeking a dedicated and certified Pharmacy Technician to join our float pool. This position involves assisting pharmacists in various tasks including medication preparation, labeling activities, and selling prescriptions. The Pharmacy Technician will perform a wide range of technical support functions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. This role is essential in ensuring that our pharmacy operations run smoothly and efficiently, contributing to the overall patient care experience. The position requires travel between Samaritan Hospital Retail Pharmacy sites located in the mid-Willamette Valley and central Oregon Coast, and it is eligible for a $3.00 per hour float differential for hours worked. Samaritan Health Services pharmacies are staffed by experienced pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who are recognized as leading experts in the area. They play a crucial role in optimizing patient drug therapy and are committed to providing high-quality patient care. Our pharmacies are open to the public and offer a variety of services including the dispensing of community patient prescriptions, immunizations, medication management services, and specialty medications. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be part of a team that is dedicated to serving the community and ensuring that all patients receive the best possible care. To qualify for this position, candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, and possess either a current unencumbered Certified Oregon Pharmacy Technician License or be a first-year PharmD student in good standing with an accredited pharmacy school, along with a current unencumbered Oregon Board of Pharmacy Intern license. While not mandatory, successful completion of a Medical Pharmacy Technician course is preferred. Candidates must also be prepared to pass a pre-employment/post-offer drug screen as part of the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in medication preparation and labeling activities.
  • Sell prescriptions and provide customer service to pharmacy patrons.
  • Perform a broad range of technical support functions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
  • Travel between Samaritan Hospital Retail Pharmacy sites as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of pharmacy activities.
  • Provide information and support to patients regarding medications and pharmacy services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current unencumbered Certified Oregon Pharmacy Technician License or currently enrolled first year PharmD student in good standing with an accredited pharmacy school and current unencumbered Oregon Board of Pharmacy Intern license required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Pharmacy Technician course preferred.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware, and software.

  • Experience in a pharmacy setting.
  • Knowledge of specialty medications and their management.
  • Ability to perform group presentations and listen to complex information.
