About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician at Food City, you will play a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy operations and ensuring that customers receive the highest level of service. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting the pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medications, managing prescription orders, and providing excellent customer service. You will be required to complete the necessary coursework and pass the certification examination from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT). If permitted by state regulations and authorized by the Pharmacist in Charge, you may also receive oral prescriptions from prescribers or their authorized designees, primarily focusing on new telephone prescriptions. In this role, you will be expected to handle various tasks such as answering phone calls, addressing customer inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise, and managing written prescriptions or refill requests. You will gather essential information to prepare prescriptions, record necessary data, and ensure that written prescription forms are stored correctly after dispensing. Additionally, you will enter data into the computer system, stock over-the-counter products, and place completed prescriptions in the designated pick-up area. Assisting in preparing insurance claims and verifying payments will also be part of your responsibilities, along with helping customers locate over-the-counter products and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Responsibilities

  • Complete the Course Work and Examination for Certification from the PTCB or ICPT Pharmacy Certification Boards.
  • Receive oral prescriptions from prescribers or authorized designees, if allowed by state regulation.
  • Provide and promote efficient and courteous service to customers at all times.
  • Answer telephone inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise or judgment.
  • Receive written prescriptions or telephone refill requests.
  • Gather information needed to prepare prescriptions.
  • Record information needed before prescriptions can be dispensed.
  • Store written prescription forms after prescriptions are dispensed.
  • Enter data into the computer system.
  • Stock over-the-counter products.
  • Place completed prescriptions in the pick-up area.
  • Assist in preparing insurance claims and verify payments.

Requirements

  • Valid Pharmacy Technician Certification certification is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in handling prescriptions and data entry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a pharmacy setting is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy software and systems.
