About the position

As a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Food City, you will play a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy operations and ensuring that customers receive the highest level of service. Your primary responsibilities will include the successful completion of the required coursework and examination for certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT). You will be authorized to receive oral prescriptions from prescribers or their authorized designees, provided that this is allowed by state regulations and authorized by the Pharmacist in Charge. This role is essential in facilitating the efficient processing of new telephone prescriptions and ensuring that all customer interactions are handled with courtesy and professionalism. In addition to receiving prescriptions, you will be responsible for answering telephone inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise, receiving written prescriptions, and gathering necessary information to prepare prescriptions accurately. You will also be tasked with entering data into the computer system, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and assisting in the stocking of pharmacy supplies. Your role will extend to helping customers locate over-the-counter products and preparing insurance claims while verifying payments. As part of your duties, you will operate the cash register and ensure that completed prescriptions are placed in the designated pick-up area. Additional job duties may be assigned as needed, reflecting the dynamic nature of the pharmacy environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete coursework and examination for certification from PTCB or ICPT.
  • Receive oral prescriptions from prescribers or authorized designees, if allowed by state regulation.
  • Provide efficient and courteous service to customers at all times.
  • Answer telephone inquiries that do not require a pharmacist's expertise.
  • Receive written prescriptions and telephone refill requests.
  • Gather information needed to prepare prescriptions.
  • Record necessary information before prescriptions can be dispensed.
  • Store written prescription forms after prescriptions are dispensed.
  • Enter data into the computer system.
  • Stock over-the-counter products.
  • Place completed prescriptions in the pick-up area.
  • Assist in preparing insurance claims and verify payments.
  • Help customers find over-the-counter products.
  • Maintain a clean department and work area.
  • Assist in maintaining and stocking pharmacy department supplies.
  • Operate cash register.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Course Work and Examination for Certification from the PTCB or ICPT Pharmacy Certification Boards.
  • Ability to receive oral prescriptions from prescribers or authorized designees, if allowed by state regulation.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to promote efficient service.
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacy operations and procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a pharmacy setting.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy software and data entry.
  • Knowledge of insurance claims processing.
