About the position

The Pharmacy Technician at Johnston-Willis Hospital plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care by performing essential technical tasks related to medication distribution. This position involves accurately filling, labeling, and distributing medications under the supervision of a pharmacist, while also maintaining drug inventory and patient records, and implementing quality checks.

Responsibilities

• Procures and distributes medication orders per physician or pharmacist request.
• Uses established policies and procedures to fill and label medication orders.
• Rounds in patient care and ancillary areas as per established schedule.
• Delivers medications and supplies, and picks up new orders for return.
• Dispenses controlled substances with proper documentation and alerts pharmacist of discrepancies.
• Ensures patient medications are checked and released by a pharmacist before dispensing.
• Responds to phone, intercom, and in-person requests promptly.
• Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies.
• Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies through inspections.
• Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration dates and replaces outdated drugs.
• Replenishes floor stock medications in automated dispensing systems and emergency kits.
• Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately.
• Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation.
• Keeps pharmacy areas and equipment clean and organized.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• 2+ years applicable experience.
• Certification as a Pharmacy Technician as mandated by state of practice.
