About the position

The Pharmacy Tech Clerk position is designed to provide exceptional customer service while assisting the Pharmacist in maintaining a clean and organized pharmacy area. The role involves prioritizing tasks and processing prescription orders in compliance with Federal and State laws, as well as company policies and procedures. The Pharmacy Tech Clerk will champion the company's customer service programs, ensuring that customer relations are handled positively and effectively, including the resolution of complaints. The position promotes the philosophy of personalized service within the pharmacy, ensuring that each customer feels valued and attended to. In this role, the Pharmacy Tech Clerk will be responsible for answering phone calls and directing inquiries that require a pharmacist's expertise. They will accept written prescriptions or refill requests from patients, confirming the completeness of patient records and obtaining necessary information. The clerk will also communicate with physicians to secure prescription and refill authorizations, applying basic prescription reading skills during data entry. This includes differentiating dosage forms, understanding directions, and performing pharmacy calculations. The Pharmacy Tech Clerk will access the pharmacy computer system to retrieve and verify patient records, process prescriptions, and inform patients about the availability of generic alternatives when permitted by law. They will maintain organization within the pharmacy, replenish supplies, and operate the patient sales register, ensuring accurate processing of payments. The role requires maintaining a clean and secure pharmacy environment while safeguarding the confidentiality of patient and company information. The clerk will perform all duties with integrity and respect towards customers, associates, and vendors, and will undertake additional tasks as assigned by the pharmacist or store management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous customer service and assist the Pharmacist on duty.
  • Maintain the clean and orderly appearance of the pharmacy area.
  • Process prescription orders in compliance with Federal and State laws and company policies.
  • Handle customer relations positively, including effective resolution of complaints.
  • Answer phone calls and refer requests requiring pharmacist knowledge to the pharmacists.
  • Accept written prescriptions or refill information from patients and confirm completeness of patient records.
  • Communicate with physicians to obtain prescription and refill authorizations.
  • Apply basic prescription reading skills during data entry.
  • Access the pharmacy computer to obtain complete patient records and verify third party parameters.
  • Inform patients of the availability of generic alternative products where allowed by law.
  • Process prescriptions to generate complete prescription labels and fill prescription vials.
  • Maintain proper organization of products in the pharmacy according to established procedures.
  • Replenish pharmacy supplies and record product needs on a 'want list'.
  • Operate the patient sales register and accurately process payments.
  • Bag products and affix receipts to bags, ensuring proper display of merchandise.
  • Maintain the clean appearance and security of the pharmacy.
  • Safeguard confidentiality concerning associates, patients, and company information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the pharmacist or store management.

Requirements

  • Valid Pharmacy Technician License
  • Valid Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Experience in store management
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to maintain composure in dealing with associates and customers
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift, stack, and maneuver objects up to 30 lbs
  • Ability to stand for long periods and move rapidly
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and pharmaceutical weights and measures
