About the position

The Pharmacy Tech/DME Intake position at HCC Pharmacy in Raeford, NC, is a full-time role focused on managing patient referrals and ensuring the smooth intake of medical equipment and prescriptions. The primary purpose of this position is to accept all referrals from patients and process them from the initial receipt until the patient receives the necessary equipment or prescriptions. This role serves as the initial contact for all incoming calls, walk-ins, and visitors for both the pharmacy and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) services. The Pharmacy Tech will act as a liaison between the company and physicians to ensure patient eligibility for products and services, thereby playing a crucial role in patient care and service delivery. Essential duties include reading and interpreting physicians' orders received in the pharmacy/DME and transcribing them onto the pharmacy computer medication profile or TME DME. The technician will prepare outpatient prescriptions to be dispensed after pharmacist approval, utilizing a computer program to prepackage medications that are not available in unit dose packages. Maintaining accurate records for recall purposes and routinely checking for outdated medications are also key responsibilities. The technician will assist with checking in orders, organizing inventory, and maintaining cleanliness in the retail area. In terms of patient intake, the technician will enter all patient information into the system, verify insurance information, and ensure all necessary documents are signed and dated by both the patient and physician. The role also involves answering phone calls, keeping a call log, and taking messages for billing personnel. The technician must maintain competency in caring for patients of all age groups and developmental stages, adhering to orientation guidelines specific to the unit. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the pharmacy and DME operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain records appropriate for recall purposes and check for outdated medications routinely.
  • Assist with checking in orders, organizing inventory, and filing associated paperwork.
  • Enter all patient information into the system and verify insurance information.
  • Ensure all appropriate documents are signed and dated by patients and physicians.
  • Answer phone calls, keeping a call log on all communications with patients.
  • Print delivery tickets and verify patient insurance before delivery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of progressive experience in a medical office setting or patient records management.
  • Two years of progressive experience in retail sales or customer service relations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and achieve goals without close supervision.
  • Computer knowledge is helpful.
