About the position

The Pharmacy Technician at Havasu Regional Medical Center plays a crucial role in supporting the Pharmacy Department by performing a variety of pharmaceutical tasks. This position is essential for maintaining an optimal level of pharmaceutical inventory through effective purchasing procedures and collaboration with appropriate contract vendors. The Pharmacy Technician will develop and maintain external contacts, which include medical service representatives from pharmaceutical companies, medical supply companies, and professional peers from other hospitals in Arizona, California, and Nevada. Additionally, the role involves liaising with local retail pharmacy outlets and customer service representatives from pharmacy computer vendors and automated dispensing cabinet support departments, as well as state and federal certification inspectors. In this role, the Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for handling medications in an effective and timely manner, ensuring appropriate storage and accurate delivery of needed medications. The technician must display comprehensive knowledge of hospital and department policies and procedures, as well as state, federal, and TJC pharmacy regulations and standards. A key aspect of the position is to work towards optimizing medication-related quality within the hospital, maintaining required compliance documentation, and promoting positive customer relations. The Pharmacy Technician will actively contribute to a supportive and cooperative work environment both within and outside the Pharmacy Department, while also protecting the health and safety of patients and staff through proper handling of chemicals and drugs. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supportive pharmaceutical tasks for the Pharmacy Department.
  • Maintain an optimal level of pharmaceutical inventory through effective purchasing procedures.
  • Develop and maintain external contacts with medical service representatives and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform specific activities required to handle medications in an effective and timely manner.
  • Ensure appropriate storage and accurate delivery of needed medications.
  • Conform to hospital and department policies and procedures as well as state, federal, and TJC pharmacy regulations and standards.
  • Optimize medication-related quality in the hospital.
  • Maintain required compliance documentation.
  • Promote positive customer relations and contribute to a supportive work environment.
  • Protect health and safety of patients and staff by proper handling of chemicals and drugs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Arizona pharmacy technician license required on hire.
  • PTCB certification required on hire.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective human relations skills for interfacing with team members, staff, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Ability to function effectively in a stressful environment.
  • Proficiency in using equipment such as telephone, overhead paging system, fax machine, calculator, and computer.
