About the position

The Pharmacy Technician at Vista Community Clinic plays a crucial role in supporting clinicians and patients within a multi-specialty outpatient clinic. This position involves managing medication refill requests, facilitating prior authorizations, and ensuring effective communication between patients and healthcare providers. The ideal candidate will be dedicated, motivated, and enthusiastic about making a positive impact in the community while providing high-quality healthcare services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to clinicians and patients.
  • Review medication refill requests and complete prior authorizations as needed.
  • Consult with clinicians and pharmacists to authorize requests.
  • Facilitate the completion of forms presented by patients to clinicians.
  • Submit new and updated prescriptions and refills or deny refills per protocol.
  • Act as gatekeeper for confirming Clinician's current orders.
  • Prepare and research information needed for prior authorizations (PAs) and treatment authorization requests (TARs).
  • Work with referral coordinators on tracking PAs and TARs, including those for formulary.
  • Review the EHR of a patient to discern information needed for patient care management protocols.
  • Receive patient phone calls and follow-up on patient needs or delegate to appropriate staff.
  • Receive phone calls from outside agencies and address caller's needs or delegate to appropriate staff.
  • Manage public folders as assigned, follow-up on refills, scan to PAQ, notify clinicians and confirm completion.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Current California State Board of Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Minimum one year related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of personnel in a professional manner.
  • Excellent customer service skills and commitment to providing high customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials and information professionally.
  • Experience with computers, business email, communication systems, and internet search capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Experience with Practice Management and Electronic Medical Records systems, preferably NextGen.
