About the position

This Full-time Pharmacy Tech position will work 80 hours bi-weekly, following a 7 days on/7 days off schedule during the evening shift. The role is integral to the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy, and it adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior. The Pharmacy Technician performs a variety of duties and technical tasks designed to assist the pharmacist, patients, and other healthcare providers, supporting the medication distribution system for hospital patients. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This includes supporting the medication dispensing practice through accurate preparation of doses, delivering medications via a computerized tube system or hand delivery as needed, maintaining Pyxis stock, and managing the CII Safe. The technician also processes discharges and transfers, performs stock billing functions, and ensures that medication stock is current and not deteriorated through monthly assigned checks. Additionally, the technician repackages medications to support unit dose systems and assists with the monthly cleaning and disinfecting of the clean room as per established procedures. The role requires self-direction to work efficiently and in an organized manner while complying with hospital policies and procedures. The Pharmacy Technician performs all duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and participates in continuous process improvement initiatives. The position may involve various shifts and roles, including Central Technician, IV Room Technician, Transition of Care Technician, Infusion Pharmacy Technician, and Buyer/Inventory Controller. The minimum expectation for all Pharmacy Technician I positions is to achieve required competencies within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Registered Maryland Board of Pharmacy Technician is required.
  • Basic computer/keyboard skills (including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a good understanding of medical terminology are required.
  • Ability to participate in all aspects of drug distribution and communicate with other hospital employees.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on acuity/need.
  • Entry level, new Pharmacy Technician with limited or no experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • National certification preferred.
  • Competency in IV admixture preparation is preferred.
