About the position

The Ambulatory Pharmacy Technician at Penn Medicine is responsible for processing prescriptions for patients in a clinic setting. This role involves collecting medication histories, filling prescriptions, and coordinating payments under the direction of a pharmacist, ensuring patients have access to their medications and that all necessary financial information is accurately communicated and processed.

Responsibilities

• Determines patient insurance requirements for pre-certification, patient payments, and coverage limitations prior to discharge.
• Maintains communication with ambulatory-based clinical pharmacists, social workers, and specialty pharmacy program team members to obtain complete financial information for claim adjudication.
• Immediately communicates any issues with coverage to the clinical practice to determine appropriate next steps.
• Proactively communicates benefit investigation information to clinical practices and patients.
• Supports all myPennPharmacy services as needed.
• Collaborates with internal team members to gather appropriate paperwork, prescription, billing information, and/or prescriptions.
• Provides follow-up communication to patients, clinical practices, and families regarding pharmaceutical needs and eligibility information for ongoing medication access.
• Interacts with medical staff to obtain complete, accurate, and timely clinical and financial information required for payer reimbursement.
• Educates patients and clinical practices regarding insurance coverage related to discharge medications.
• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine values, policies, and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Requirements

• CPhT (CPT) certification required.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 6 months of retail pharmacy experience preferred.
