About the position

The Pharmacy Tech I position at Atrium Health is a full-time role that involves assisting registered pharmacists in performing various technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This position is crucial in ensuring that patients receive their medications accurately and safely. The Pharmacy Tech will work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and will be responsible for filling and delivering medication orders for patients of all age groups. This includes answering and screening telephone calls, performing cart fills, restocking automated dispensing machines, and managing emergency boxes and kits. The role also involves processing charges and credits for medications, compounding and repackaging oral medications, and documenting and delivering controlled substances. In addition to these responsibilities, the Pharmacy Tech will be required to compound sterile preparations while adhering to USP 797 guidelines and hazardous high-risk preparations following USP 800 guidelines. A significant aspect of the role includes performing medication reconciliation for patients being admitted to the hospital and independently entering computer orders for ambulatory prescriptions. The position requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that all tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner. The physical demands of the job include working primarily in the pharmacy, delivering medications to nursing units, and performing tasks that require considerable walking, standing, and lifting. The Pharmacy Tech must utilize appropriate personal protective equipment to minimize exposure to hazardous agents and take necessary precautions to avoid injuries. The role may involve rotating shifts, and the candidate must be able to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing, while also being able to hear normal sounds amidst moderate background noise.

Responsibilities

  • Fills and delivers medication orders for all age groups under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

  • Performs computer order entry of ambulatory prescriptions independently.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Board Certificate is preferred.
  • 6 months prior Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
  • Prefer at least 1 year of pharmacy tech experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and technology skills.
  • Knowledgeable about top 200 medications.
