The Pharmacy Technician I Certified at St. Elizabeth Healthcare plays a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy department under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the safe and effective distribution of medications to patients. The technician assists in the selection, procurement, storage, preparation, and distribution of medications, while also maintaining accurate records and financial reconciliations. Adhering to the ICARE principles, the technician demonstrates respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues, regardless of their cultural backgrounds. In this role, the technician will provide excellent customer service by engaging with doctors, nurses, and patients who contact the pharmacy. They will answer queries or direct calls to the appropriate personnel for resolution, ensuring timely processing of Epic messages. The technician will assist pharmacists in dispensing medications accurately and efficiently, which includes filling medication bins, labeling, and restocking Pyxis medication stations. They will also ensure the timely receipt and delivery of patient medication-related information and products by making necessary rounds, distributing medications, and processing admissions, discharges, and transfers. The technician will participate in the Process Improvement Program and comply with all policies related to Infection Control and Safety, contributing to improved patient care and outcomes. They will be responsible for checking expiration dates for medications, managing inventory through cycle counts, and processing returns correctly. Additionally, the technician will begin sterile compounding training and prepare oral syringe medications for critically ill infants in the NICU when applicable. The role also includes enhancing career development through participation in departmental meetings and educational services, as well as performing other duties as assigned.
